After a few minutes, they brought them everything Lina had asked for.

Lina said to Noé, “Noé, my friend, I cannot send you directly to the white people’s country, but with all this, your mother will be able to help you get there.”

“Thank you, Lina,” he said.

I waved to them and left with a happy heart. The commander and the soldiers escorted Noé and his sister back above the water, and they returned home very happy.

Years later, Sabrina, my best friend, called me and said, “Lina, a human is shouting your name over and over above the water.” I rushed there, and there stood a handsome smiling man, and it was Noé.

“Lina!” he shouted.

“Noé!” I replied. “How are you? What’s the news? It’s been a long time.”

“Thanks to you, Lina, my mother sold everything and my uncle helped us leave for another country,” Noé told me. “Today, I came back to help other young people leave too. Thank you for saving my life.”
