“Prepare everything,” Daniel said. “The wedding will proceed, and when it happens, it will shock everyone.”
The next day, Felicia returned with a full outfit for him—simple, elegant, and clearly expensive.
Daniel touched the fabric and pretended surprise. “This brand is costly.”
“You must dress well,” she replied. “You’re the groom.”
Then she sat down, opened her handbag, and pulled out a thick bundle of money.
She placed it in his hands.
Daniel stared. “What is this?”
“Eleven million naira,” she said quietly. “My savings.”
Daniel tried to give it back immediately. “No. I can’t take this.”
Felicia pushed it back into his hands.
“You’ll soon be my husband. If I don’t help you, who will?”
Daniel fell silent.
Felicia’s voice softened. “Life has ups and downs. I believe you’ll rise again. And when that day comes, I’ll be happy I didn’t abandon you when you were down.”
Daniel looked away for a second because something in his chest hurt.
Then he held her hand and said, “Felicia, I will marry you with my whole heart.”
She searched his face and whispered, “Just be honest with me. That’s all I want.”
Before he could reply, his phone buzzed.
“Chairman,” his assistant said, “the annual wealth summit has started. Everyone is waiting for you.”
Daniel looked at Felicia. “I need to step out briefly. But the wedding is still in two days. Nothing changes.”
Felicia touched his arm. “Don’t hide anything from me. Whatever it is, we face it together.”
Daniel nodded. “Together.”
He left and went straight to the annual wealth summit.
When he entered the hall, the room shifted.
The richest men and women across Africa stood up. Conversations died. Faces filled with reverence.
“God of wealth,” someone said.
Daniel walked forward with calm authority and took his seat. One by one, powerful people greeted him.
“If not for you, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
“You gave us opportunities when no one believed in us.”
“Tell us what we can do to repay you.”
Daniel raised a hand and the room fell silent.
“This past month,” he said, “I went out in disguise. I lived as a beggar. I wanted to see how people treat others when they think there is nothing to gain.”
Murmurs spread.
“Only one hundred people showed kindness out of thousands who passed,” he continued. “These one hundred must each receive enough financial support to change their lives. Fund it immediately. No delays.”
Every head nodded.
Then Daniel added, “There is something else. I’m getting married in two days.”
Excitement swept through the room.
