Once upon a time, in a small town, there was a girl named Amiwa. Amiwa lived in a small house with her parents. Her parents worked very hard. They helped farm owners sow, harvest, and take care of the crops. They woke up early in the morning and worked all day long.
But despite all their efforts, they did not earn enough money. They saved every coin to send Amiwa to school. Amiwa did not like seeing them save every cent just to buy food. Her clothes were old and her shoes were too small. At school, some girls made fun of her.
“Look, Ami, you’re always wearing the same clothes,” they would say. At home too, the neighbor women laughed at her. Amiwa was very sad. She no longer wanted to be poor. She dreamed of new clothes, shiny shoes, and a beautiful house. “One day, I will become rich,” she told herself while looking out the window, lost in her dreams.
As she grew up, Amiwa started looking at slay queens on Instagram. They looked perfect, their hair was beautiful, their dresses were very expensive, and they were always smiling. “I want to be like them,” Amiwa thought. Amiwa had a friend named Denny. Denny came from a middle-class family, but Amiwa came from a very poor home.
They had met at school. Denny liked makeup, pretty clothes, and shiny shoes. She always looked proud and well put together. One day, Amiwa said to Denny, “Denny, please, can I borrow your wig and the red shoes you wore last Friday?” she asked. Denny stopped.
“You want to take pictures again?” Amiwa smiled shyly. “Please, just for a few hours, I’ll return everything.” Denny stared at her. “Don’t steal my wig, and don’t go falling in my shoes.” Amiwa burst out laughing. “I promise,” she said. She took the clothes and got dressed.
She put on high heels, big jeans, and red lipstick. In front of the mirror, she smiled broadly. “I look like a slay queen,” she said. Then she went out into town. She stood in front of big houses and beautiful restaurants and took lots of pictures. Click, click, click. In every photo, she smiled like a rich girl. She posted the images online.
“They’ll think I live this life,” she whispered, laughing softly. Later that evening, Denny scrolled through Instagram. “Hmm! Amiwa is acting like a soft girl now, huh?” she said, amused and jealous. “I hope this doesn’t get her into trouble one day.” A powerful man saw Amiwa’s photos.
His name was Chief Olabiri. Everyone called him Ola because he was very rich. He had a big house, a large car, and many people respected him. People said he was a generous man who often helped others. Amiwa was overjoyed when she saw his message. “You are beautiful and special,” the chief wrote.
Their message exchange went on for a while, and she opened up to him. She told him her dreams and ambitions. Chief Ola replied, “I can help you. I can make you rich.” Amiwa jumped with joy. “This is my big chance,” she thought. Chief Ola invited her to his grand house. When she arrived, she saw a big shiny black car parked outside.
The house was enormous, fit for a king. Amiwa’s eyes widened. She had never seen such a house. “Wow,” she gasped in amazement. The chief was wearing a large white agbada. The gold rings on his fingers shone brightly. He smiled at Amiwa. “Welcome, my dear,” he said in a deep voice. They sat down.
